August felt slow. Why was it down?
For all services at Gold MedSpa, August 2026 compared with July 2026.
Revenue came in at $148,310, down $13,630 on July. Injectables account for 67% of that move on their own. The average ticket held at $336, so this is not a discounting problem. Injectable visits fell from 214 to 186, and the drop sits almost entirely in one provider's book.

Revenue came in at $148,310, down $13,630 on July, and roughly 9% of that is injectables.
Violet came from the read above. Red did not. The model estimated it, which is the one thing it is never allowed to do.
03Anything it made up is rejected
Both violet figures trace back to the August read they were computed from. They survive.
The 9% traces back to nothing. The whole answer goes back to be written again, and you never see this draft.

Which marketing channel brought in our new clients?
Ask Nabu
I can’t answer that. Where a client came from isn’t recorded in your data, so any split would be a guess. What I can count: 84 first visits last quarter, and what each one has spent since.

What is Ask Nabu?
Ask Nabu is an AI financial analyst for med spas. You ask a question about your own clinic in plain language and it answers from your connected booking data, joined to your provider pay rates, product costs, device leases and overhead, with the working attached. It covers profit and loss, margin by service and provider, cost structure, capacity, forecasts and clients. It sits on top of the booking system you already run.
Why is my med spa busy but not profitable?
Almost always because the services filling the calendar are not the ones carrying the margin. Revenue per treatment is easy to see and cost per treatment is not: provider chair time, product, device minutes, card fees and room time all sit in different places, and no booking system joins them. A treatment can be fully booked and still return less per hour of room time than the quieter one beside it. You find it by ranking services on contribution per available hour instead of on revenue.
What is a good profit margin for a med spa?
The American Med Spa Association puts net profit for the industry at roughly 20% to 25%. That is an average across very different businesses, so your own margin by service matters more than the benchmark. A clinic sitting at 22% overall usually has several services well above 50% and one or two quietly below zero, and the overall number hides both.
How do I work out what a treatment actually costs me?
Start with the product and consumables, then add the provider's pay for the actual chair time, the share of the device payment for the minutes the device ran, and the card processing fee on the ticket. Then allocate room and fixed overhead by the minutes the room was held. What is left is contribution, and for most clinics it lands well below what the price on the menu suggests.
What is contribution per available hour?
It is what a provider, room or device returns per hour it was available to work, after the cost of delivering the treatments booked into it. It is the measure that separates busy from profitable. The highest revenue provider in a clinic often ranks third on it, because their service mix carries more product cost per visit, and that is usually the first real surprise when an owner looks.
Can I get profitability reports out of Zenoti, Boulevard or Mangomint?
They report revenue, and revenue is not profitability. Those systems record what was booked and what was charged, which is what they are built for, but none of them hold your provider pay rates, device leases, room costs or overhead, so none of them can tell you what a treatment left behind. Nabu reads from whichever one you use and adds the cost layers underneath it. You keep booking, charting and charging exactly where you do now.
Can I just use ChatGPT to analyze my med spa's numbers?
It will explain a concept well, and it cannot see your clinic. Paste a report into a general chatbot and it has no access to your pay rates, device leases or room costs, and it will produce a confident figure that is sometimes simply invented, because a language model has no way to check whether a number is true. Ask Nabu's model is not permitted to type a figure at all: every number is computed by a governed read first, and a verifier rejects any digit in the finished answer that does not trace back to one.
Do I need a CFO for my med spa?
Most single-location clinics neither need one nor can justify one. A fractional CFO for a practice this size runs roughly five to twelve thousand dollars a month. What an owner usually needs is not a person on retainer but the answer itself: which service, which provider, which hour, and what to do about it this week.
What happens when Ask Nabu cannot answer something?
It tells you what is missing instead of estimating. Ask which marketing channel brought your new clients in and, if acquisition source is not recorded against your clients, it says so, offers the nearest question it can answer, and tells you what to start capturing so the real question works next quarter. Figures it can answer are labelled recorded, derived, allocated or estimated, so you always know how solid the ground under a number is.
How much does Ask Nabu cost, and is there a free version?
Every clinic gets 10 answered questions a month at no cost, on any plan including the free Solo Founder plan, and the allowance belongs to the organization rather than to each person. Beyond that Ask Nabu is part of Nabu Intelligence at $99 a month per location billed yearly, which also covers the Action Center. Only a delivered answer counts against the allowance: declines, clarifying questions and product help are free.
