Connecting Channels

How to connect Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, YouTube and LinkedIn to Nabu, the permissions each one asks for, and what to expect from each platform.

How to connect a channel

  1. Go to Schedule in the left sidebar.
  2. Open the Channels menu (or the + tile at the end of the channel row) and select Connect more.
  3. Choose the platform you want to connect and sign in when prompted. You'll be asked to approve the specific permissions Nabu needs (posting, and reading basic profile info).
  4. Once approved, the account appears as a connected channel and is ready to use in new posts.

You can connect more than one account for the same platform — for example, two separate Instagram Business accounts for two locations.

What each platform requires

Instagram must be a Business or Creator account connected to a Facebook Page. Personal Instagram accounts can't be connected — this is a limitation of Instagram's own API, not Nabu.

Facebook connects a Facebook Page you manage, not a personal profile.

TikTok connects your TikTok account directly. Posts publish straight to the profile. See the note below on the settings you control.

YouTube connects a Google account that already has a YouTube channel. A Google account with no channel on it cannot be connected, so create the channel at youtube.com first.

LinkedIn currently connects your personal LinkedIn profile. Posting as a Company Page isn't available yet — see below.

TikTok: how publishing works

Nabu is approved by TikTok for direct publishing, so a post you schedule goes straight to the profile at the time you picked. Nothing to tap in the TikTok app.

A few things specific to TikTok:

  • You set privacy, and whether comments, Duet, and Stitch are allowed, per post in the composer.
  • If the TikTok account itself has comments, Duet, or Stitch turned off account-wide, that setting wins. Nabu cannot turn it back on for a single post.
  • TikTok has no way for Nabu to post a first comment. This isn't a missing feature, TikTok's public API simply doesn't offer it.

LinkedIn: personal profile vs. Company Page

Today, connecting LinkedIn lets you post as yourself (your personal profile). Posting as your business's Company Page requires a separate LinkedIn approval that isn't in place yet. Once that's approved, connecting a Company Page will work the same way as any other channel — no different workflow to learn.

Reconnecting a channel

Go to Schedule, open the Settings tab, and select Reconnect next to the account. You'll sign in to the platform again and approve permissions, and the channel picks up where it left off. Your scheduled posts, drafts, saved channel defaults, and published history are all untouched.

Use it in two situations. The first is when a channel stops working: Facebook and Instagram access expires roughly every two months, and a password change or a security review on the platform's side can end it sooner. A channel that needs attention shows Reconnect needed under its name.

The second is when Nabu starts asking a platform for something new. Permissions are baked into the access granted at sign-in, so an existing connection keeps working with the permissions it was created with. Reconnecting is what picks up the new ones.

Reconnecting is not the same as disconnecting and connecting again. Disconnect deletes the stored connection.

Disconnecting a channel

Go to Schedule, scroll to the Channels panel in the analytics section, and select Disconnect next to the account you want to remove. This immediately deletes the stored connection, so you'll need to reconnect and re-approve permissions to use that account again. If the account is just showing an error and you want to keep using it, reconnect instead of disconnecting.

Disconnecting doesn't delete anything you've already published to that platform; it only removes Nabu's ability to post to it going forward. See the Data Deletion page for what happens to any account data Nabu had stored.

Frequently asked questions

Why can't I connect my personal Instagram account? Instagram's API only allows posting through Business or Creator accounts. Convert your account to a Business or Creator account in the Instagram app, then connect it to a Facebook Page before connecting it here.

A channel shows a connection error — what do I do? This usually means the platform revoked or expired the connection (common after a password change or a security review on the platform's side). Go to Schedule, then Settings, and select Reconnect next to that account. There's no need to disconnect first.

Can different team members connect different channels? Any Authorized User with access to Schedule can connect a channel to the location's workspace. Connected channels are shared across the whole location, not tied to one person.
