Equipment

Add your treatment devices and their costs so Nabu can allocate device expenses to the services that use them.

What counts as equipment?

Equipment in Nabu means the treatment devices you own or lease — the machines that have an ongoing monthly cost, either through a lease payment, financing, or maintenance contract. Examples:

  • Laser and light devices (IPL, Fraxel, Halo, Clear + Brilliant, BBL)
  • HydraFacial and aqua-peel devices
  • CoolSculpting and cryolipolysis systems
  • RF microneedling (Morpheus8, Vivace, Potenza)
  • Ultrasound devices (Ultherapy, HIFU)
  • Body contouring machines (Emsculpt, truSculpt, Venus Bliss)
  • Any device with a monthly lease or maintenance cost

If a device has no monthly cost and requires no maintenance, you probably don't need to add it here.

Why this matters

If your laser costs $2,000 per month to lease and you use it for three services — Halo resurfacing, IPL photofacial, and Clear + Brilliant — each of those services should carry a portion of that cost. If you ignore the laser cost, those services will look far more profitable than they really are.

The Equipment section exists so Nabu can allocate device costs correctly: to the specific services that use each device, not spread across everything.

Equipment here vs. equipment in Business Costs

This is a common question. You can put equipment financing as a Debt/Loan item in Business Costs and it'll be included in your overhead. The difference:

  • Business Costs approach — the laser lease gets spread across all services as part of overhead
  • Equipment section approach — the laser lease is assigned to only the services that use that device

The Equipment section gives you more accurate per-service profitability. If you have a $3,000/month CoolSculpting lease and your clinic offers 40 services, putting it in Business Costs means every service carries a tiny share of that cost — even a $50 brow wax. That's not accurate. Use the Equipment section for device-specific financing.

How equipment connects to services

After adding your devices here, you'll link them to specific services in the Services section. That's where Nabu assigns the device cost to the right services.

Confirming this section

Click Mark as reviewed when done. If you don't have any equipment with ongoing costs, mark it as "Not applicable."

Common questions

What if I own the device outright (no lease payment)? Enter $0 for the monthly payment. If the device has a service contract or regular maintenance costs, enter those under monthly maintenance. Owning a device outright doesn't mean it's free — maintenance still applies.

What about small handheld tools like dermaplaning blades or microdermabrasion tips? Those are consumables, not equipment. They have a per-use cost that goes in Products & Supplies, not here. Equipment is for devices with monthly payments or maintenance — not per-use items.

Should I use Equipment or Business Costs for my device financing? Use Equipment for device-specific loans and leases. This routes the cost to the right services. Use Business Costs (Debt/Loan category) for general business loans — like an SBA loan you used to open the clinic — that aren't tied to a specific device.

What if a device is shared across multiple rooms? Enter the room where it spends most of its time, or the room it's primarily assigned to. Room assignment is informational — it helps with capacity planning but doesn't change cost allocation.
