Getting Started Overview

Everything that happens between signing up and seeing your first real numbers — explained step by step.

The onboarding journey

When you first sign up for Nabu, you go through a short onboarding process that sets everything up for your specific business. Here's the big picture before we dig into each step:

Sign up → Create workspace → Choose your data source → Connect or upload data → Complete setup → See your numbers

Each of these steps is explained in detail in the pages that follow. Don't worry if you don't have all your information handy the first time — you can always come back to Nabu and finish setup later.

What you'll need before you start

Before jumping in, it helps to know:

  1. Which software you use for bookings and sales — Zenoti, Boulevard, Mindbody, Vagaro, Mangomint, Square, PatientNow, Meevo, or even just a spreadsheet. If you're not sure, ask whoever manages your front desk.

  2. Basic payroll information — approximate compensation rules for your providers, such as hourly, salary, commission, flat per-service, or per-unit injectable pay. You don't need exact numbers to start — estimates work fine and you can refine them later.

  3. A rough sense of your fixed monthly costs — rent, utilities, software subscriptions. Again, estimates are fine to start.

You do not need to have all of this perfectly organized. Nabu is designed to let you start with what you have and improve accuracy over time.

The two paths: API connection vs. CSV upload

The biggest decision in setup is how your sales and visit data gets into Nabu:

  • API connection (Zenoti only currently): Nabu connects directly to Zenoti and syncs your data automatically. This is the easiest path if you use Zenoti and have API access.

  • CSV import (all platforms): You export data from your software as a spreadsheet (CSV file) and upload it to Nabu. This works with every platform and gives you full control over what gets imported.

Both paths get you to the same place — working financial dashboards. The API path is just more automatic.

How long does setup take?

For most users:

  • Onboarding wizard: 5–10 minutes
  • Setup sections (costs, people, services, etc.): 30–60 minutes if you have your information handy
  • First meaningful financial report: Within an hour of completing setup

Some sections take longer depending on how many services, providers, and cost items you have. But even partially-completed setup gives you useful data — you can always refine it.
